Comparison

SplitBank vs Splitwise: same math, no paywall

Splitwise is good. It also has a daily expense limit on the free plan and puts charts and search behind Pro. We don’t. Here’s the honest side-by-side, including what they do that we don’t (yet).

Which one should you choose?

Choose SplitBank if…

  • • You want charts and expense search without paying
  • • You want to scan and itemize receipts without paying
  • • You add lots of expenses and don’t want a daily limit
  • • Your group settles up with Venmo, Cash App, PayPal or Zelle
  • • You want to bring a group over: import it from Splitwise’s CSV export

Choose Splitwise if…

  • • You want balances kept in each currency instead of converted to dollars
  • • You’d rather install a native app from an app store

Switching questions

If you want the core features — groups, balances, flexible splits, simplified debts, other currencies and settle up — without a daily limit or subscription, yes. If you want balances kept separately in each currency rather than converted to dollars, Splitwise does that and SplitBank doesn’t yet.

Yes. Export the group from Splitwise’s website as a CSV, then choose Import from Splitwise when you create a group. Match each person to yourself, a friend or a new guest, check the preview, and every expense, payment and balance comes across.
